UTSA Soccer Star at her Best
Laylla De Cruz is from Ouro Branco, MG (Minas Gerais) in Brazil. The prominent language in Brazil is Portugese, and the language is known to come from the French and Latin cultures. Laylla grew up being fluent in Portugese and learned Spanish in high school. "Learning Spanish for me was easy because they are known to be similar" (De Cruz, 2011). Laylla lived in Brazil for her whole life playing soccer, until August 2010, when she decided to move to the United States, specifically San Antonio, Texas.
Laylla's favorite thing about the United States in general is that we give equal chances to people no matter who they are. Because Brazil soccer is mostly seen as a male sport, Laylla likes being able to play for the women's team at UTSA and not being ashamed.
True Fact: The only couple of sentences of English that Laylla could speak when she moved to San Antonio were: "Hi, my name is Laylla, I am from Brazil, and I majoring in International Business."
What Laylla loves about UTSA Soccer and being on the team is that she gets to travel and see the United States through traveling with the team. The worst part about the United States is that she hates ordering at restaurants because she thinks that she sounds stupid.
